Winter. A Reminder

We all know its coming, we all hope it will be a mild one, and we all hope it will not start too early. However, as last year proved winter can start as early as early as November and last to the end of February with hard frosts and heavy snow falls making life difficult. Even more so for those of us who care for animals during this period or simply need an outside water supply.

Over the last three years the UK has experienced exceptionally severe winters. And forecasters are predicting that harsh winters will be with us for the foreseeable future. Astronomers monitoring sun spot activity warn we could even be facing another “Little Ice Age”. A phenomenon last seen over 300 years ago.

Providing a constant supply of water to grazing animals (or any other animal for that matter) during winter can be extremely challenging and time consuming when outside water pipes and taps are frozen. And depending on where you live in the UK there are on average 100 to 125 of ground frost days over the winter period which will cause some disruption to the availability of water.
