Frequently asked questions
Some frequently asked questions about our frost-free standpipes.
Q. Does it really not freeze?
A. We have had standpipes installed for over ten years now without ever having one freeze.
Q. What is the delivery charge?
A. Delivery to mainland UK is included in the price. For The Highlands and Islands please contact us and we will endeavour to secure you a competitive rate.
Q. What connections are required underground?
A. The standpipe is manufactured to be compatible to UK standard fittings. These fittings are readily available from most DIY or plumbing shop outlets and generally speaking you will need either a "T" piece or an elbow, according to the type of installation you have. You would use an elbow to install the standpipe at the end of a water pipe or a "T" piece if you install mid way through your water supply. Philmac provide plumbing attachments for the standpipe with a useful video link to a demonstration of how to use the fittings.
Q. Can they be installed anywhere?
A. Yes providing you have water supplied under pressure and underground or are going to install a new water supply. We have customers who have installed them over an existing field trough, on a yard or simply in the middle of a field.
Q. How do they interface to our existing water system?
A. The standpipe is designed to interface to your existing water supply via a 3/4" BSP tapered connector which screws into the valve housing at the bottom of the tap. This is then attached to a standard 25mm or 20mm blue underground water pipe.
Q. How deep underground does the water supply need to be?
A. The standpipe is manufactured to be installed between two foot to three foot deep. Please contact us for guidance.
